The Gift of Encouragement

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 | Blog, Show You Care | 1 Comment

Why not take Ephesians 4:29 a step further and encourage someone through a card?

Eph4: 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

I sent a card to a lady I met a week ago, just to say how much I enjoyed our time together.  Her response was, well, see for yourself:

Kathie – thank you for your lovely card! There is still something special about finding a personal note in the REAL mailbox.

Now, an email or phonecall may have been well received too, but sending something in the post seems extra special these days somehow, don’t you think?

Even BNI promotes Send Out Cards!

This morning I was at my local BNI chapter meeting and the educational message was shown to me before the meeting started. The E.D. was excited that the very company I represented got a mention in this morning’s message.

Very simple direct message taken from one of Ivan Misner’s books about the importance of connecting with people and sending them thank you cards, or cards acknowledging people in some way.

It’s true that basic manners seem to have disappeared largely today – even in the business world, and the simple act of sending a thank you card to someone because you appreciated how they looked after you means a great deal to people – often more than a phone call or an email.  Cards tend to get kept for months on shelves in the office or perhaps in the home.

So, if you would like to acknowledge those you do business with, why not contact me to get you started!

What’s a card worth?

Do you, through your business or personally, send out cards to those you know on a regular basis? Perhaps for seasonal events such as Easter, Christmas and New Year, or for birthdays or anniversaries. What about thanking someone for doing business with you? Or perhaps it’s for something else – someone you know has just had a baby, got married or is in need of sympathy. In the past I had a client who would get me to handwrite cards to all her top clients every Christmas, Easter and for other reasons through the year. Sometimes with a small gift included.

Have you worked out the cost involved in purchasing those cards, the time involved in handwriting them and addressing the envelope, then the trip to the post office and cost of postage? Or perhaps you get the cards specially printed so there is that additional cost as well – to make sure that you have something unique and reflects you and/or your business? And were you posting it to another country?

What if I told you that you could get all of the above; unique cards, your own handwriting, no trips to the shops or post office, no bulk-buying specially printed cards, all for under $3.00 per card including printing and postage? In fact, the cost varies (and gets lower) depending on what options you choose with the new service I now have available. You can sign up to simply send cards out (at retail or wholesale) to people or you can become a distributor to introduce your contacts to the service too. Or, if that’s all too much for you, you can engage me to simply send out cards on your behalf, whenever it suited you.  And at a good rate too, including the printing and postage.

Whether it be for Mother’s Day coming up soon, something else or business related why not try out a gift account on me and see how it works or give me a call and I’ll walk you through the process. Phone +613 9754 8310 or email me.

Finding reasons

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 | Show You Care | 1 Comment

I only recently joined Send Out Cards but I do know from experience, that to really learn how a business works and what its benefits are, you need to get involved and get active.  One of the things I was told is that I should be sending cards regularly and for a little while there I was having to find ‘reasons’ but now I’m finding that the reasons are showing up. Why do you think that is?

As a professional speaker I sometimes tell my audience about the ‘RAS’ or the ‘recticular activation system’. What you think about you are drawn towards.  Your mind acts like a magnet. This can work both negatively and positively.  Think about the time you were learning to drive a car and you were told to ‘look out for….’ and whatever that thing was, you probably hit it, or almost, didn’t you?  Or what about when you are researching the make and model of car you want to buy and suddenly everywhere you look, that car is on the road.  It’s like suddenly everyone else has that car too.  Not really, but it does mean that your mind is drawn towards what you think about and you readily notice these things.

The same will come in seeking out ways to grow and develop your business, whatever that business is. And so it is with Send Out Cards.  Almost daily now I get phonecalls or emails from people and in passing conversation they tell me of something that later makes me realise I should let them know I’m thinking of them.  And so I send a card…

Express yourself – often!

That was the title of a blogpost of a friend of mine whose brother had rung her to tell of a car accident he’d had – one where he probably shouldn’t have survived but did.  Lyn then goes on to share other experiences and reminds her readers how important it is to keep in contact with people and let them know that you’re thinking of them and how you feel about them.

Kody Bateman (founder of Send Out Cards) shares his story of how he had ignored that inner prompting to contact his older brother, only to lose him shortly afterwards.  He chose to never forget that lesson and to help others to take note of those promptings and make contact with those they care about.  Today thousands of people worldwide are acting on those inner promptings and using cards and gifts to reach out to those they love.

I’ve had those promptings too.  My best girlfriend died when she was only 21 – I ignored promptings for several weeks to contact her because I was so wrapped up in my own life, newly married and expecting a baby.  I found out 5 months later she had killed herself and for years I wondered if I could have made a difference to her.  I’ll never know. But it did make me take notice of those promptings and even today I try to make sure that happens regularly. There are still times when I miss the mark but now that I’ve joined Send Out Cards I’ve decided not to let that happen any longer.  I’m making it a habit to send out a card daily to someone who means something to me and the best thing I like about it, is it costs very little.

I don’t have to go to the shops to buy up a pack of cards, I don’t have to go to the post office to buy stamps or put the cards in a letterbox.  I can do it all from my home and I can even design my own cards.

Do you have people you care about? Would you like to make sure they know it?  Why not send them a card today on me?

Sending cards – it makes a difference

When did you last receive a card from someone?  Did it make you feel special that someone took the time to select a card, write in it and then post it to you?

When did you last send a card to someone?  How did it make them feel? Did they let you know?

I’ve had clients do this over the years and I’ve always appreciated it.  I’ve kept the cards for a long time on my shelves in my office because they made me feel special and appreciated.

Would you like to do that for others?

How would you like to select the card you want to send from your computer and not have to go in search of suitable cards in the shops?

And then be able to write in the card and address it, to send from your computer instead of going to the post office? Ever got there and discovered you left the address at home? I have.

With Send Out Cards you can upload your database, or build a database up and have everyone’s contact details in one place.  You can develop a system for sending cards to those you wish to know you were thinking of them.  And we have thousands of designs for you to choose from, or you can design your own – I do!
